Rampage split with Bakersfield to close season series

The San Antonio Rampage fought hard, but could not complete the weekend sweep of the Bakersfield Condors, falling 5-2 at the AT&T Center on Sunday afternoon.

San Antonio lit the lamp in the opening frame when Reid Petryk tipped home a pass from Eric Gelinas past Bakersfield netminder Nick Ellis at 7:55. The goal would hold as the only for the period.

The Silver and Black extended their lead to two goals when Felix Girard put home a rebound off a Brendan Ranford shot to make it 2-0. The rest of the game would belong to the visitors as Bakersfield would score five straight goals to win. It started with Patrick Russell’s shot past San Antonio goaltender Spencer Martin at 2:34 to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Bakersfield dominated the final frame with goals from Jesse Puljujarvi, Joey Laleggia, Mark Fraser and Braden Christoffer to complete the comeback, winning 5-2.

Up next: The Rampage are now 26-40-5-2 on the season and will close out the 2016-17 season with three straight games against their in-state rivals Texas Stars. Beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Cedar Park Center.
